After victory at home over Celta Vigo, which isn’t much of a surprising looking at previous good performances in front of own fans for the players of Girona, the side surely did surprise last weekend when the side took a three pointer in away game against Villarreal with a 2:0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Visitors took the lead with a goal from Stuani in sixteenth minute in a game which at first look seemed like an equal one, but as the time progressed and result was negative for Villarreal, the hosts had more and more ball possession, but without being better in chances. Second halftime was much more open from both sides, with Villarreal having more and better chanced, however Girona hit them once again, in 80th minute via Lozano when the hosts risked more.

Girona is now at seventh position, having just a point less than sixth and Europa League placed Villarreal, being in a pretty good momentum now with three victories in last four matches – only defeat suffering on the road to Barcelona.

Midfielder Aday (21/1) is doubtful for this one coming off from injury, similar to second choice goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz (9/0). Participation of defender Carles Planas (5/0) is also questionable after receiving a knock in previous game.

Deportivo La Coruna, on the other side, didn’t manage to get a three pointer in front of own fans against Eibar being limited in attack and stood to a 1:1 draw, as the side now standsn without single three pointer in last twelve rounds of LaLiga.

It must be said that Deportivo didn’t look that poor at the first sight, but were down in the scoreline since eleventh minute when Inui took the visitors into the lead, but the hosts replied well and had some decent chances, deservedly leveling up the result in 33rd minute with a goal from Andone.

However, important factor has happened in 39th minute when the home team stood playing with a man less, as their goalkeeper Maksym Koval got red carded and left the field. Players of Eibar looked better till the end of the match, having complete ball control and domination, however simply failed to put the ball behind the back of home side goalkeeper, surely deserved more than a point out of this clash.

Deportivo is now still second from the bottom with six points more than rock bottom Malaga, but also just two points less than safely placed Levante – still having a decent chance of survival mostly thanks to really poor form of their biggest relegation battle rivals.

Midfielders Federico Valverde (19/0), Guilherme (23/0) and Federico Cartabia (19/2) are all doubtful coming off from various injuries.

Girona have shown so much more during the whole season and I can’t see anything but their easy victory here. They won convincingly against much more difficult opponents recently in front of own fans and are scoring far more easier than what Deportivo does. Visiting side has defense nowhere close to quality one in order to match the home side’s attack.
