Reims – Lens

17th March 2018   ·   0 Comments

After a bit unexpected defeat away to Clermont week earlier, players of Reims responded in a best possible way with an impressive performance and a 4:0 victory in front of own fans against Chateauroux last Friday evening.

The game itself looked quite equal one in the first halftime, but the hosts were the ones who were much more precise taking the double lead via Chavalerin and Ouding while they outplayed the opponent completely in second and sealed the victory thanks to goals from Diego and Abdelhamid in the middle of the second half.

The side keeps being first at the table having eleven points more than second placed Nimes and already fifteen more than third placed AC Ajaccio. They have been steadily strong in front of own fans with eleven victories in fourteen rounds so far in Ligue 1 and anything but a victory here would be a negative surprise for sure for all of their fans.

Left midfielder Hassane Kamara (18/1) is injured and should be their only worry ahead of this one.

Lens, on the other side, found a way to once again disappoint their fans last time out, as the side suffered narrow 1:0 defeat against Bourg Peronnas last Monday evening.

They had more of the ball possession, but the team didn’t create much in comparison to the opponents who were actually far more concrete from the first minute with the ball to their feet. It was especially obvious in second part, when they threatening via counter attacks, scoring the only goal via Merdji in 77th minute with the hosts having no real way of responding.

This is now third game without a victory for Lens (two defeats and a draw), as the side currently stands at fifteenth position with just three points more than play-out placed Nancy. Visitors should have no special worries making the starting lineup for this one.

  • Reims didn’t win in last four competitive home matches against Lens.

Reims is doing well all season long and are now really close not only to direct promotion but also to winning the first position. Lens has more than decent individual quality, but they have been far from a stable side all season long and are currently in a pretty poor form.

I just can’t see making an impression here, or at least, it wouldn’t be logical at all against such a strong performing side this season. Odds re too good considering the level of their performances recently, but also during the whole season.
