It’s been a very up and down start to 2018 for Liverpool so far. It all started fairly straightforwardly as they beat Burnley and Everton, but they kicked it up a level by ending Manchester City’s unbeaten Premier League season in a thrilling 4-3 match at Anfield. They then quickly reverted to the other end of the scale, losing away to Swansea and then getting knocked out of the FA Cup by West Brom, before beating Huddersfield on Tuesday to end a rather turbulent January.

With both domestic cups now out of the question for Jurgen Klopp, the focus will be squarely on their upcoming Champions League campaign and securing a top four spot for next season, which is a massive battle in itself with the quality of the teams around them.

Liverpool currently sit 3rd in the Premier League, three points adrift of Manchester United in 2nd but only above 5th placed Tottenham by two points. Arsenal are also in the running, so it could be a battle to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Tottenham are in high spirits as well. The visitors put on an excellent display at Wembley in midweek to beat Manchester United 2-0, with Christian Eriksen scoring the 3rd fastest goal in Premier League history to start the game off quickly. The 2-0 scoreline rather flattered Manchester United, and it could well have been a bigger margin of victory.

This was a welcome return to winning ways after a shocking draw away to Newport in the FA Cup and a disappointing draw at Southampton the week before. They are unbeaten in nine competitive games though, so they won’t be travelling to Anfield expecting defeat.

Goals are likely to be the order of the day on Sunday. Liverpool have seen a huge 15 goals in their last three Premier League games at Anfield, whilst Tottenham have scored nine and conceded eight in their last six away days in the league.

Spurs have only kept two clean sheets in their last eight away matches in the league, and given Liverpool’s recent goalscoring form, they’re unlikely to get one on Sunday. However, the visitors have scored in all but two of their trips away this season as well, so backing Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score looks a good choice along with a high scoring 2-2 draw.

Mohamed Salah looks the best value for our anytime goalscorer predictions. The Egyptian winger has seven goals in Liverpool’s last seven home games and leads their scoring charts with 19 Premier League goals this season, so we’re backing him to find the net again.
